5 people shot including a mother and her 6-year-old son. The annual J’Ouvert celebration in the Brooklyn borough is and Black event commemorating the end of slavery for the Caribbean communities.
Two men were arrested and two guns were confiscated as all five people were rushed to the hospital and are believed to make full recoveries.
The event was scheduled to be virtual this year due to Covid-19, but hard core revelers showed up for a night of fun. Just after 2am in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn chaos ensued. Three men and a mother were shot along with a little boy who was shot in the leg.
Via a social media message NYPD chief Terrence Monahan called the incident a “senseless act,” and are asking anyone with information to contact NYPD tips or call 800-577-TIPS.
