Giants ready for Act 2 of the Season

New York Giants

New York Giants bye week is spent and its back to business as usual, with Big Blue facing the Philadelphia Eagles next week after the eagles had an impressive outing on Sunday night versus the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants are in a pretty good position in the NFC East after a lackluster start of the season.

This is not a rare position for the Giants who found themselves in the same position last season before tanking the rest of the season limping through the remainder of the season 2-7 over the final games.   Fans are hoping for a better turn of events for the current season, with a deep receiver roster and QB with an itchy trigger finger.

Most of Big Blue nation are confident this season will see the Giants land in the playoffs.   And if today’s record were the deciding factor, New York would be in 6th place.

New hardware for the Cavs and not to run software.  Championship rings were delivered before the Cavs played their first regular season game against the New York Knicks.

The rings were earned months ago when the Cleveland Cavaliers made history against the Golden State Warriors who were the defending champions.  The incumbent defeated the former champs by overcoming a – deficit to win the NBA Finals.  The cool of the rings included the order in which the team won the title, but in the inside of the ring.

The Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks put on a defensive clinic, and it proved to be a kickers game.  In Sunday’s 6-6 tie, the kicks made it worth watching.

In overtime, Arizona’s Chandler Catanzaro kicked a field goal from 24-yards but missed leaving the game locked at 6.  Seattle then offensively ran a dominant possession and put Stephen Hauschka with 28-yards but he to missed the shorty FG leaving the game touchdown less with 15 punts, 16 penalties.

This was not a good kicking game but proved to be worth watching.

World Champion Cleveland Cavilers will face the Washington wizard who split the last season 2-2 in the four conference games.  Wizard’s point guard and six-year veteran, John Wall has impressed versus the Cavs averaging more than 10 assists and 23 points per contest.

The game will be held in Columbus and streamed live.  For more information, visit Cleveland.com/cavs, this is the sixth preseason game for the defending champs.  They enter game 6, with no injuries and not currently playing marque players.  The game will be held at Ohio State University’s Value City Arena.

Former Oklahoma City Thunder’s Coach Scott Brooks is in his inaugural season with the Wizards.  The team didn’t make the playoffs last year but pulling in Brooks is a clear attempt to get into the post season.  Many pundits believe this is a playoff caliber team.

Beckham Jr. Shines in 27-23 win over Ravens

Odell Beckham Jr. 10/16/2016

Teams facing the New York Giants have to all cogitate all week on one man and that’s Odell Beckham, Jr.  On Sunday the Wide Receiver showed you why, catching 8 passes for 222 yards most of which came in the second half.

Two brilliant runs colored the game and showered negative sentiment off the player who has been bombarded with sentiment that negated his expertise on the field.  But, from the position of underdog, Beckham recorded the second-most total yardage in franchise history.   The record was set in 1962 when Del Shofner earned 269 yards vs. Washington.

Without anything to complain about detractors quickly pointed out the promised penalty against the wide out for taking off his helmet before reaching the sideline.

NBA Jersey ads creating Jersey Real Estate

NBA Jersey Ads

Scribe:  Samuel Otis

Email: samuel@thethinkering.com

The NBA is finding new ways to make more money every day.  The most recent is jersey advertisements allowed by the league on a trial bases.  Two teams the Philadelphia 76ers and the Sacramento Kings have both inked deals worth $15 million to try the new venture.

Expect ads on the jersey of your favorite player in the upcoming season.   Blue Diamond Growers have contracted with the Kings.  Companies internationally are chomping at the bits to get a shot at the small patch.   The 76ers are contracted with StubHub as the first two teams to make the leap.

Part of the slowdown in getting the patches on every uniform is the lack of backstory.  There is no understanding of what the value of such advertising should be worth.  A few deciding factors being kicked around is team popularity and success, market size and marquee-player value.
