HOUSTON -- If there's one player who never has to be reminded of the importance of rebounding, it's Denver's Kenneth Faried.

That was clear Wednesday night.

NHL Making Progress But No Agreement In Sight

Seven hours of meetings between representatives of the NHL and the NHL Players' Assn. on Tuesday in New York produced at least one key agreement: that they had enough reason to reconvene Wednesday to continue exploring resolutions to the labor dispute that has wiped out more than a quarter of the schedule.

Negotiations between the NHL and the locked-out players' association lasted deep into Tuesday night, and went well enough that the sides agreed to return to the bargaining table for more talks Wednesday.

Both sides kept details close to the vest after the meeting that lasted more than seven hours. That also could be taken as an optimistic sign that the second round of talks in four days went well.

The marathon session — on Day 52 of the lockout — was held at an undisclosed location in New York, at request of the NHL, in order for the sides to be able to talk without any potential distractions.

Texans Marching On

Arian Foster rushed for his league-best 10th touchdown on Sunday at home in the Texans' victory over the Bills. It was the ninth straight game at Reliant Stadium that Foster has rushed for a touchdown.

Matt Schaub threw two touchdown passes, Arian Foster ran for 111 yards against Buffalo's NFL-worst rush defense and the Texans beat the Bills and their former No. 1 draft pick 21-9 on Sunday.

Andre Johnson caught eight passes for 118 yards and Foster scored in his fifth straight game. The Texans (7-1) clamped down on defense in the second half to put the game away.

Houston kept up the best start in franchise history heading into next Sunday's showdown with Chicago (7-1) at Soldier Field.

"We're happy to be 7-1 at the halfway mark," Schaub said. "But we're not finished. We've got to go into a tough environment against a very good team next Sunday night."

Rockets: $80 Million for 5 Years

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets agreed with guard James Harden on a five-year, $80 million contract Wednesday, and league sources told The Thinkering.

The deal came four days after the Rockets pulled off a stunning trade to acquire Harden from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Houston traded shooting guard Kevin Martin and first-round draft pick Jeremy Lamb to Oklahoma City, along with future draft picks.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey called Harden a "foundational player" on Monday, stating that the reigning Sixth Man of the Year is "a player we can build around."

The Rockets, who also signed point guard Jeremy Lin this offseason, visit the Detroit Pistons in their regular-season opener Wednesday.

Rockets Sign James Harden

The Oklahoma City Thunder has traded reigning Sixth Man of the Year James Harden, The Thinkering has learned.

Harden will be sent to Houston for Kevin Martin, rookie Jeremy Lamb, two first-round picks and a second-round pick. The Thunder is also sending center Cole Aldrich and guards Daequan Cook and Lazar Hayward to the Rockets.

The deal comes on the heels of negligible progress being made on a contract extension for Harden following nearly four months of negotiating. As a result, the Thunder parted ways with the fan favorite after stagnant talks made it clear Harden would be too much of a financial burden to keep.

If no deal was reached on an extension by Wednesday’s midnight Eastern deadline, Harden would have become a restricted free agent next summer. Houston is believed to now be ready to ink Harden to the maximum-allowable contract that Harden has long been believed to covet.
