GSP: Better Than Before According to Goldberg

Georges St. Pierre, the UFC’s welterweight champion, has been out of action since he defended his belt against former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields in 2011, because of an ACL injury which was sustained during training. This Saturday, he will step back into the octagon to unify his belt against the division’s interim title holder Carlos Condit, but how well will GSP do after such a long time off healing and rehabbing his knee?

Talking with Michael Landsberg on “Off The Record” on Tuesday, UFC lead commentator Mike Goldberg said that he believes GSP can potentially be better than he was before the injury and year long layoff.

“I think he might even be better,” Goldberg said. “He might have been able to take all of this pressure off himself mentally during the time away. Get away from the different types of training and improve himself as an athlete. Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre is one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport.”

Where is Royce White?

Houston first-round draft pick Royce White is not with the team and says the Rockets have been "inconsistent" in their agreement to help him cope with his anxiety disorder.

The 16th overall pick in this year's draft made a deal with the team to travel by bus to some games this season so he could confront his fear of flying and obsessive compulsive disorder over the long term.

Heat Down Rockets 113-110

LeBron James scored 32 points in the second half and the Miami Heat rallied late for a 113-110 win over the Houston Rockets on Monday.

James finished with 38 points for the game. He also hauled in 10 rebounds and dished out six assists. Miami trailed the entire fourth quarter until James scored on a layup with 18 seconds left to play, giving the Heat the lead for good.

Chris Bosh also tallied a double-double, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Dwyane Wade chipped in with 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the victory.

"He is a big player that can go inside and outside," Wade said of Bosh. "It's a luxury having a guy like that. He understands how much he means to this team."

Chandler Parsons led the Rockets with 25 points and James Harden had 22, but he missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the end of the game for Houston, which has lost four of its last five games.

No PJ: Mike D'Antoni Will Lead The Lakers Through 2012-2013

The Los Angeles Lakers, in a wholly unexpected move, announced Monday morning that they signed former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni to replace Mike Brown as head coach.

D'Antoni's deal is for four years, his agent, Warren LeGarie, confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com late Sunday night several hours after the Lakers beat Sacramento 103-90 for their second straight win under interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff. A league source said D'Antoni has a three-year deal worth $12 million with a fourth year as the club option.

The deal was signed around 11:30 p.m. PT Sunday night, a source close to the situation told ESPN.

Lakers Minus Brown: Premature?

"I have great respect for the Buss family and the Lakers' storied tradition and I thank them for the opportunity they afforded me," Brown said in a statement. "I have a deep appreciation for the coaches and players that I worked with this past year and I wish the organization nothing but success as they move forward."

Assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff has taken over as interim coach for Friday night's home game against the Warriors.

Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, Pau Gasol added 14 points and 16 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers responded to coach Mike Brown's firing earlier Friday with a 101-77 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Jordan Hill scored 14 points for the Lakers, who had just a few hours to absorb Brown's dismissal after just 18 months on the job. Following a bumpy first half under interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff, they pulled away in the third quarter with a 25-9 run led by Bryant, who also had nine rebounds and seven assists.

Kobe Bryants Death Stare Gone Viral

Kobe Bryant laughed incredulously after practice Thursday when a reporter showed him a video on his cellphone from the waning moments of the Los Angeles Lakers' 95-86 loss to the Utah Jazz.

The video, commonly dubbed "The Kobe Death Stare" on the Internet, has 986,000 results come up when searched for on Google. It shows Bryant seething in anger on the bench during a timeout late in the fourth quarter Wednesday and Bryant's unblinking eyes after Lakers coach Mike Brown walks in front of the star guard's view.

Bryant admitted he felt anger and frustration with the Lakers off to a 1-4 start for the first time in his 17-year career, but that people shouldn't read too much into the viral video.

"I don't give a (expletive) how it was interpreted," Bryant said. "It doesn't really matter to me. I'm too old to deal with that stuff. I really am. I've been (Brown's) biggest supporter. So, I'm really too old to be dealing with childish things."

HOUSTON -- If there's one player who never has to be reminded of the importance of rebounding, it's Denver's Kenneth Faried.

That was clear Wednesday night.

NHL Making Progress But No Agreement In Sight

Seven hours of meetings between representatives of the NHL and the NHL Players' Assn. on Tuesday in New York produced at least one key agreement: that they had enough reason to reconvene Wednesday to continue exploring resolutions to the labor dispute that has wiped out more than a quarter of the schedule.

Negotiations between the NHL and the locked-out players' association lasted deep into Tuesday night, and went well enough that the sides agreed to return to the bargaining table for more talks Wednesday.

Both sides kept details close to the vest after the meeting that lasted more than seven hours. That also could be taken as an optimistic sign that the second round of talks in four days went well.

The marathon session — on Day 52 of the lockout — was held at an undisclosed location in New York, at request of the NHL, in order for the sides to be able to talk without any potential distractions.

Texans Marching On

Arian Foster rushed for his league-best 10th touchdown on Sunday at home in the Texans' victory over the Bills. It was the ninth straight game at Reliant Stadium that Foster has rushed for a touchdown.

Matt Schaub threw two touchdown passes, Arian Foster ran for 111 yards against Buffalo's NFL-worst rush defense and the Texans beat the Bills and their former No. 1 draft pick 21-9 on Sunday.

Andre Johnson caught eight passes for 118 yards and Foster scored in his fifth straight game. The Texans (7-1) clamped down on defense in the second half to put the game away.

Houston kept up the best start in franchise history heading into next Sunday's showdown with Chicago (7-1) at Soldier Field.

"We're happy to be 7-1 at the halfway mark," Schaub said. "But we're not finished. We've got to go into a tough environment against a very good team next Sunday night."
