Cavaliers vs. Warriors Series of the Ages

Last year’s 2015-2016 NBA Finals, it was clear starting Game 4 the Cleveland Cav’s.  On paper the Warriors and the Cavaliers were running dead heat, until they met in the finals last year.   After a disappointing loss for the Golden State Warriors, the team retooled and added the four time scoring king Kevin Durant to the lineup.

The Cav’s boasted a 51-31 regular season record with a winning percentage of .622, with Golden State walking away from the RS with 67 wins and 15 losses and still on paper both teams look great.  But, the Warriors are beginning to outpace the defending champions.

In both Game 1 and Game 2 of the 2017 Finals in early play the teams looked comparable, although as the game wears on the western team tends to systematically pull away.  Is it fatigue?

NBA Finals Game 1 Cav's 91 - Warriors 113

It’s what we have waited all year for the NBA Finals with super teams the Cleveland Cavaliers or the East and the Golden State Warriors of the West.

In the east there is the man that’s considered one of the best to ever play the game in LeBron James and company and in the west the vilified, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry all of whom have won the coveted NBA MVP ring at least once.

Thursday night Game 1 start as a competitive affair with both teams being a bit tentative at the start.  At the end the Warriors tied the NBA record for consecutive postseason wins at 13 carving out a W for themselves with a 113-91 victory over the defending champions.

Golden state has weapons all over the court but last night it was a Curry, Durant party as they combined for 66 points, 18 assists and 14 rebounds.

Many people will say racism is at an all-time high and the country has never been more divided.   The ugly hand of white supremacy found its way to a man who is considered to be mutating into the best basketball player who have every played the game.  On Wednesday, a vandal painted a racial slur on the superstar’s gate at his LA mansion.

The home was empty at the time as the Cleveland star prepares for Game 1 of the 2017 NBA Finals, but he did take the time to speak about the incident.

In the history of the National Basketball Association there has never been a team to Sweep the post season through the finals for a championship.   However, the Golden State Warriors 12-0 in the playoffs could do just that.

James Harden is in a bit of a bind being accused of masterminding a robbery against the son of former NBA great Moses Malone.  A Houston TV news station first reported the potentially future Hall of Famer James Harden hired men to rob and beat Moses Malone Jr. of $15,000 to $50,000 in jewelry at a Houston strip club June.

Malone alleges that Harden paid the robbers $20,000 to attack him after Harden became upset over Malone’s Facebook post about Harden’s basketball camp saying, "The post basically referenced the fact that James Harden was charging $250 for a basketball camp," through his attorney George Farah.

There’s a new sheriff in town!  Former NBA superstar and television basketball analyst for TNT, Shaquille O’Neal says he is considering running for office.

He recently said, "This is not about politics for me. It's something that I always wanted to do. It's just about bringing people closer together," during the interview. "You know, when I was coming up, people love and respected the police, the deputies. And I want to be the one to bring that back, especially in the community that I serve."

Is the NBA Playoff Stage Set?

Warriors Vs. Cavs

Seven consecutive playoff games and seven consecutive wins are boasted both in the west by the Golden State Warriors and the East by the defending champions the Cleveland Cavaliers.   The two teams are seemingly set on a destined course to offer a rematch of the 2015-2016 NBA finals.  Last season Cleveland upset the Warriors after a 3 game lead by the Western team to win the ring in seven.

A new season, a new world class player in Kevin Durant has metamorphosed the almost unbeatable Warriors to a super team, that can play nearly every style of basketball and walk away with a win.  They no longer have to play a perfect game to get the W.

The Heavyweight Lions-- The new Era

Wilder

I grew up in Mississippi hearing stories of age old boxers like Jersey joe Walcott, Jack Johnson and Joe Louis, don’t feel sorry for me because this was in the 1970’s and the heavyweight division was rife with talent.  Joe Frasier, Big George Foreman, Ken Norton and of course the Great Muhammad Ali.

Since then there has been a few that would ball into the ‘great’ category but none more dominant than the furious Mike Tyson.   Since then the division of the ‘Gods’ has grown a bit stale.  Boxing has not, but the big division had—until now.  The heavyweight division has never been bigger, stronger and more palatable to watch than now.

The Massachusetts Attorney General’s office has ruled the death of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez a suicide.  The 27-year-old was found early Wednesday morning apparently hanged by a bed sheet attached to a window.   He was being housed in the states Souza-Baranowski Correction Center.

Authorities are now saying the defamed athlete left several notes one to his four-year-old daughter, another to her mother, and a third to a prison inmate friend.  State Police found cardboard shards jammed into the tracks of the door of the single cell to impede entry.
