OP/ED

Recently, Melissa Harris Perry ran into trouble with MSNBC over her lack of editorial control on the show that bears her name; that prompted her to write an email saying, I am not a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by Lack, Griffin, or MSNBC.

But, she clearly could not convince the MSNBC brass that she was not their little bobble head.   The company immediately replaced her with a lady that was brown as if she was some sort of doll or token replacement.  Jo-Ann Reid, replaces Harris, another African American who is not new to MSNBC.  She was the host that was just cancelled due to low ratings.  In their actions the company is saying, I can replace you and maintain my quota of maintaining an African American female host.

People who supported the event to raise money for residents included “Creed” director Ryan Coogler who skipped the Academy Awards to make a difference.  Musical talent included the legendary Stevie Wonder who said during the event, “The reality is we all need water. That’s a human right,”he continued. “And it should be clean water! One requires accountability. If it goes down bad, someone’s gotta go.”

Comedic genius Chris Rock delivered a well-executed monologue at the much anticipated 88th Academy Award show.  He effectively snatched away anyone’s complaints by covering his political bases attacking everyone on every front.

Comedian Mike Epps, said on a television talk show in the week leading up to the show, “Chris Rock is a pro.”  And, Rock proved that in the first minute of opening dialog.

I didn’t expect much by watching the program, thinking, I’m sure the hype is much bigger than it should be.  The racial controversy kicked off when famed actress Jada Pinkett-Smith boycotted the show citing the lack of diversity.   Film maker/Director, Spike Lee signed on just after Smith and others refused to participate or acknowledge the show.
