G.H. Bush Hospitalized

Bush, 88, has been in and out of the hospital recently for complications resulting from bronchitis, Methodist Hospital said in a brief statement.

The hospital and Bush's spokesman in Houston, Jim McGrath, described Bush as in stable condition and said they expected the former president to be released by the weekend. He has been under hospital care for nearly a week.

"If you asked him today, he would tell you he feels good enough to get out this afternoon," McGrath said Thursday. "But the doctors have a different view. He's 88, and they're being extra careful, and understandably so."

The former president's illness was described as not life-threatening.

"Any time someone the president's age had bronchitis, there's concern about possible pneumonia," Amy Myunderse, the doctor who is in charge of Bush's care, told the Houston Chronicle. "Mr. Bush's condition never progressed to that level."

Rockets Deflated By Thunder 120-98

OKLAHOMA CITY -- James Harden's return to Oklahoma City was only a small part of an emotional day for the Houston Rockets.

Kevin Durant matched his season high with 37 points and the Thunder beat Houston 120-98 on Wednesday night, after the Rockets made a stop in Minnesota earlier in the day to attend the funeral of coach Kevin McHale's daughter.

Harden scored 17 points but was limited to 3-for-16 shooting. He had six shots blocked by the Thunder.

After a draining 24 hours, he was ready to put it behind him.

"It felt good just to be competing against those guys and finally get this over with, to play here and get it over with," Harden said. "Now, I can continue on with the season."

Harden missed his first nine shots, and by the time he made one, the Rockets were down by double digits in the second half. They never got closer than 10 after that.

Rockets To Wear Green Armbands

The Houston Rockets will wear a green band on their jerseys during the game Tuesday in honor of Coach Kevin McHale’s daughter, Alexandra “Sasha” McHale, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The 23-year-old woman passed away on Saturday afternoon. Green was her favorite color.

The Rockets plan to hold a moment of silence before the game against Toronto at the Toyota Center.

McHale took a leave of absence from the team on Nov. 10 to be with his family in Minnesota, the organization said in a press release.

“I extend my deepest condolences to Kevin and Lynn for the loss of their beautiful daughter, Sasha, on Saturday afternoon,” Leslie Alexander, owner of Houston Rockets, said in a released statement on Sunday. “Kevin and Lynn are loving and dedicated parents who will need our continued support throughout this very difficult time. Our entire organization is mourning the McHale family’s loss and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

Pet Adoption For Holidays: Galleria

Shoppers at the Galleria will notice some furry friends looking for loving homes for the holidays.

The Houston SPCA is teaming up with Neiman Marcus for its 23rd annual Holiday Pet Adoption. Cats and dogs will be on display in the store's front windows through December 23.

If you're thinking of giving someone a pet as a gift, the SPCA says it's best that the animal not be a surprise.

"This should be a well thought out decision," said Meera Nandlal with the Houston SPCA. "Animals are lifetime commitments and we want them to have forever homes. So if you do want to get someone the gift of a pet, bring them to Neiman Marcus, bring them to the Houston SPCA. Let them pick out the animal and you pick up the tab."

The animals are all spayed and neutered and ready to go home the same day. The adoption fee for dogs is $195 and you can adopt a
