$9 Million: Anthony Chiofalo To Face Theft Allogations

Fugitive accused of stealing $9 million has been arrested and is on his way back to Houston to face charges.

Anthony Chiofalo is en route to Houston. His first stop will be the Harris County inmate processing center. He had been running from felony theft charges for six months until he suddenly surrendered.
Almost two weeks after this Newport, Rhode Island court appearance, Chiofalo is on his way back to Texas. The 51-year-old turned himself in to police in Newport the week before Christmas along with $150,000 in cash.

"He could have been on the run for a long time if he wanted to. No one knew where he was. He had a lot of money with him, but it takes a lot of courage to turn yourself in facing what he's facing," said Paul Doyle, attorney for Anthony Chiofalo.

Once booked in jail, Chiofalo won't be able to post bond. His attorney says it's $18 million.

New Year's Eve Party Downtown

One of the biggest New Year's Eve parties in the Lone Star State kicks off in just a few hours in downtown Houston.

Discovery Green will turn into a disco when New Year's Eve Houston kicks off at 7pm. KC and the Sunshine Band will perform at the city's annual fun-filled and free family-friendly night.

Yesterday organizers were putting the finishing touches on all of the attractions and performers were rehearsing, but that's just part of the fun.

"There will be ice skating with Olympic ice skaters as well as Olympic hopefuls," Susan Christian, Director of the Mayor's Office of Special Events. "We have a kids zone with all sorts of games."

One of the most unique parts of the night is the illuminated art car parade. The party ends with a huge fireworks display.

For more information on tonight's event, click Here. And if you can't make it to the event, you can watch it live on ABC13 beginning at 11pm.
