Houston Police Officer Fired On Armed Man

Officials say a Houston police officer shot a suspect who allegedly threatened an off-duty officer with a gun.

According to police, the off-duty officer arrived at a night club on Webster near Bastrop -- south of downtown Houston -- around 1:30am Saturday. As he got out of the car, a man walked up to him and flashed his weapon.

We're told the officer warned the suspect he is a Houston police officer, but the suspect allegedly showed him his gun one more time.

That's when the officer drove to a nearby police substation and came back with a few uniformed officers. They found the suspect still there on the scene.

Uniformed officers reportedly approached the suspect who again brandished his weapon, officials said.

Houston Marathon Makes For a Fun Saturday

Houston Marathon

Houston's first marathon took place in December 1972 on a five-mile loop with a parked station wagon marking the turn. The 113 runners feasted on beef stew after the race, and several even washed the dishes. Forty volunteers (many of whom are still volunteering) and a spectator crowd conservatively estimated at 200 people, five dogs and three cats cheered the runners on. Over 40 years later, the Chevron Houston Marathon ranks among the world's best and is acclaimed as one of the city's premier civic events. We encourage you to come and cheer, volunteer and get involved!
