NYC Fire claims the lives of 12 More critically Injured

Bronx Fire 2017

Scribe: Lucy Osbourne

New York City suffered the worst fire in 27 years on Thursday.

A three year old child playing with a stove in the Bronx kicked off an inferno that left 12 people dead.

According to reports the boys mother heard him scream from the kitchen where he was playing with the stove, as he does from time to time. She grabbed up the boy and her two year old and fled the apartment leaving the door ajar. The flames drafted out of the open door up the stairwell, which acted as a chimney flute as the fire sought oxygen to live. When people upstairs saw the fire in the stariwell they opened the windows and fed the fire fresh oxygen further aggravating the situation. It was the perfect fire storm.

The diverse residents included people from Jamaica, Guinea, Ghana, Dominican Republic and Trinidad.

Gaming a Mental disorder

Gaming Disorder

Scribe: Samuel Otis

Email: samuel@thethinkering.com

In the United States and most western countries gaming has become a serious past time and for some a bit more. We have all thought about whether or not someone is spending too much time in front of a TV screen attached to a gaming console.

The World Health organization is sending out a health warning about a new mental illness. WHO is classifying the new mental disorder as “gaming disorder.”

If deemed severe, it can result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of life. The disorder is not characterized by gaming now and then, but, by lack of ability to control when one games, and giving priority to gaming to the detriment of other life interest and daily activities. Another tell tale sign would be continuing to game despite negative consequences.

A JetBlue airliner slid off the runway on approach on Monday night after allegedly hitting a patch of ice. Flight 50 from Savannah, Georgia landed at Logan Airport around 7:15pm and needed to be towed back onto the roadway after sliding off.

Emergency workers responded to the Air Bus A320 skidding off the runway and spinning completely around facing the opposite direction and came to rest between two runways. The FAA are investigating the incident. At the time the airport was fully operational, earlier in the day some flights had been stopped because of inclement weather.

Only 86 accidents per year are reported related to airplanes. Of every 2.4 million flights one accident occurs. Last year more than 36.4 million flights were taken and 81 accidents were reported – more than 3 billion people flew safely through 2016.

N. Tru Bass: Why do Poor Whites vote Republican?

Poor Whites
Scribe: N. Tru Bass
In conversations with the Lady in the Bag, she expressed to me that people are generally dumb. I responded, No, I dont think so, I believe that people are generally smart and most make good decisions.
What she said continued to waft through my mind over and over and different scenairos began to playout in my mind like Mississippi and Alabama. Misissippi in particular. 2,984,100 people populate the state. The median household income in 2016 is $40,528, the per capita income in the past 12 months is $21,651 with a 21% poverty rate. Now, here is the rub, this population votes Republican without fail.

New Optical tweezers offer early diagnoses for cancer patients. The new technology allows small devices to enter the blood stream and actually able to grab objects as small as a cell.

Individual cancer cells can be gripped and manipulated with the tiny optical tweezers. The technique uses a bean of light to create and attract cells using a force field that holds, or traps small objects without physical contact.

Lady in the Bag: Wuz Up!

Lady in the Bag

WUZ UP!!!  Well, a whole lot. Let's talk about taxes.  We love our country and Democratic values.  We live in the greatest nation in the WORLD. Don't listen to the downers, who want to increase your taxes, take back your health insurance benefits and give all the rich folks tax breaks, so they can get richer AND, in turn, you get poorer. The working class gets hammered, while our President employs foreign workers on his own properties and his daughter's designer line is produced in China (or so the media has divulged).

R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!!   That’s what we’re talkin’ ‘bout.  We love our country (USA) and it is the GREATEST nation in the world. We don’t need to make it great again;  its greatness was never in question and never lost or diminished. The USA has always been great and shall remain great. Can we make it greater (rhetorical query)?  How do we achieve this goal?

Rotisserie Chicken Processed Foods?

Garlic Butter

Scribe: Lucy Osbourne

Email: lucy@thethinkering.com

On Thursday night, no one wants to cook and my usual go to is Walmart for the rotisserie chicken. A recent article dumped my beloved garlic butter rotisserie chicken into the processed foods category. I was forced to investigate and here I will share with your my findings.

In describing the chicken I will begin with the price is right for two boys and two adults. Seductively succulent and savory are my go to words for my late week chicken fix. However the chicken is pre-seasoned in factories and shipped to supermarkets where an employee can put it in the oven for about 30 minutes and out comes a perfect chicken.

While it is processed, it is an anomaly being one of the healthiest processed meals. And, is even better when the skin is removed.
