The Essence festival in New Orleans on Saturday was a good place to be for democratic presidential hopefuls, Michigan Senator Elizabeth Warren and California Senator Kamala Harris.

Both lawmakers used the occasion to launch plans concerning black wealth and leveling the playing field for disenfranchised in America.

Harris announced a plan that would offer $100 billion to assist with redlining and to increase the number of Black families owning homes.   The money would help cover down payments and closing costs for up to four million families or individuals, providing home buyers with up to $25,000 per family.

She also called for tougher laws against housing discrimination.  She also touched on credit reports and suggested, Rent, utilities and phone bills should be calculated in credit reporting to increase minority scores.

Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado and New York’s Mayor Bill de Blasio also delivered remarks.
