The Strait of Hormuz is considered the world’s key oil choke point and on Monday Iranian General AlirezeTangsiri said “Our presence in the region is physical and constant and night and day.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refuted that claim on Tuesday saying that Iran does not control the strategic waterway.   In a social media message he said, “The United States will continue to work with our partners to ensure freedom of navigation and free flow of commerce in international waterways.”

Tangsiri also said there is no need for an alien presence like that of the United States and countries whose home is not here.  The Trump administration has actioned a round of sanctions and has a second set that is expected to take effect on 4 November.  The focused of those sanctions are the banking and energy sectors—pointing to the US and the west taking control of the volume of oil through the strait.

For years western countries attempted to slow the flow of oil from the Middle Eastern countries unsuccessfully.  Western media is pushing the idea that Iran wants to slow the flow the oil through the strait however, the western energy conglomerates are key in slowing the flow to increase profits.
