Remember this aphorism? “If one person is enslaved, then we are all enslaved.” Slavery as an institution, in the Old South, was allegedly CONCEIVED by landowners (land barons) and their perceived necessity of ‘free, cheap labor’, not unlike illegals and migrant workers of today. In the Old South, slaves were prohibited from learning how to read and write; not allowed to own property; families were systematically and intentionally divided—males sold without consideration for the fatherless children and unprotected women that remained behind or sold to other landowners; women were abused by the slave masters and used for breeding; slaves were commodities, traded and sold on the whim of the master. Masters controlled all necessities for survival: food, water, shelter, clothing, family units, medical attention and, of course, education.

Southern Masters knew that by imposing this diktat, slaves would be hard-pressed to escape (fearing mutilation, whippings, hangings and more) or rebel against their owners; however, even in these horrific circumstances, slaves sought freedom and the scintilla of the idea ‘to be free’ flourished. Slaves were encouraged to attend church gatherings and meetings: since the preachers spoke about an afterlife where they were free, pain, hunger and misery did not exist: promoting the concept that if you were a ‘good’ slave, who obeys the master, only then will you have a good afterlife. Karl Marx said, “Religion is the opium of the people!” Really. The overseers knew that preachers opined and shouted to their congregations, “Fear not today, for this is only your earthly body and you will be free and joyous in the afterlife.” Clearly, these folks were shackled with and without physical chains; shackled in their beliefs, hearts and minds.

Today, institutionalized poverty continues to exist and as in the past ‘controls’ the masses. We are still enslaved and don’t even know it. If we give a human a fish today, we must also teach the human to ‘fish’ tomorrow; otherwise, humans cannot be independent. We are in the midst of an ever-changing economy and must participate in the economic revolution, or be left out (of eligibility for the prize, of independence) and remain in economic bondage. We must remove the shackles and bonds of slavery by instituting literacy programs, registering folks to vote and exercise independence by voting, teaching life skills, engage in the proliferation of job training, train leaders, teachers, doctors, innovators, lawyers, and even lawmakers and provide for the necessities of life while the inspired work of learning occurs. Through education, anything is possible; the world is ours and life is good. We can take control of our birthright and become greater than even we can imagine.

Foisted upon us, by folks who measure success by financial remuneration (income, assets, “stuff” that you own and high net worth), we believe that we are failures. No. We are not failures, merely successes in proCess. Life’s achievements are possible. I believe, I imagine and I dream that we are united in our effort to stop others from hi-jacking and incarcerating (enslaving) our minds, souls and lives. King Trump and his cohorts, and fellow Republicans, would have you believe that we are shiftless, slackers, lazy and don’t want to work. Frankly, it is an astounding achievement that the masses survive at all. We survive (barely) on the largess of the wealthy, because they need and want a continued source of ‘cheap labor’.

We are folks who need a thinkers’ cosmic forge to engage in the economic revolution. We must unite in order to provide our youth with the means to succeed, at whatever their endeavor.

I have always wondered how modern day prisons can control and house so many inmates; the correction officers (masters of today) do not customarily carry guns; cells separate prisoners from the guards and guards separate leaders from the general population: yup, the Southern Plantation psychology is consciously used to control the prison population; time-tested methods, remnants from experience of the practices in the Old South, are liberally employed, namely: control necessities for survival, activities and promote disharmony through violence and sustained systematic reprisals. The majority of the prison population is male, African-American or Hispanic-American. Why? Simply stated: this continues the old Southern racist practices of removing and isolating male family members in order to maintain the dysfunctional dystopia of slavery (Jim Crow Laws): and provide a constant source of cheap labor for the wealthy. Does this sound familiar? It should.

We need and want skills, so we can raise our families and provide for them. I, personally, have never heard a person, who is underserved by our society and living in poverty, say, “I don’t want to work or I want to stay home and do nothing.” Americans have always been hardworking, industrious people, who have been recognized for our skills, gifts and talents.

There was a time when our youth went to the mall or small stores and even farms to obtain Summer jobs; those days are over. We need new skills, income while job training occurs, assurances that after retraining a job will be available and we want continued educational programs and opportunities. Unfortunately, due to economic downturns, many adult education or technical high school programs have been deleted from state budgets. Accordingly, we look to the Federal government to fund these programs.

We don’t want handouts, as reported by Republicans; we want to develop marketable skills.

We want jobs! Really! If you believe the snake oil King Trump is selling will cure your ills, and you lie down to embrace the cure, you shall be waiting for an eternity: Your maladroit grows unabated because you are complacent. We need to keep pressing our peers and people of conscience (not merely to accommodate). King Trump claims that he has brought jobs back to America. Blah! Blah! Blah! Who is he kidding? King Trump is talking about a great, great job market and tax rebates and tax relief for our middleclass Americans. Is this true? What about our working poor? How will they survive? Who really benefits from the new tax plan? The rich become richer and we (the masses) have a new debt of over 1.2 Trillion Dollars, that shall be repaid to Americans via funding cuts to programs for children, the handicapped and others. The much touted economic success, attributed to King Trump, demonstrates a steady incline since 2002. More than $8 of every $10 of wealth created last year went to the richest 1 percenters. The billionaire boom is not a sign of a thriving economy but a symptom of a failing economic system,” said Winnie Byanyima, executive director of Oxfam International.

We must continue to fight for freedom and equality wherever we are repressed. We must protest and march when called upon; we must continue to educate our people, in the ways of nonviolence. We must establish a network of leaders from each State and each town and initiate or actively participate in voter registration drives. We must continue Reverend King’s work. If our people do not vote, then King Trump’s fringe, racist, misogynistic, AK 47 repeat assault weapon gun toting, radical right wingers take control of our movement and we shall be defeated. We are too great in number, varied in ethnicity and religious beliefs to forget freedom and equality for which America stands. We are poised to win! Let’s do it together!

Register to vote! Then vote! This is your time of empowerment. Your destiny to CHANGE America begins today. Check out your state’s voter registration laws (go to vote.gov for your info).

VOTE BABY VOTE! LEARN BABY LEARN!

I must add my thoughts on the continued destruction of family units and community life for Hispanic Americans; the proposed DACA immigration program, tears families apart, with parents deported and children on a lengthy path (10-12 years) towards citizenship. Again, the goal is destruction of the family unit (as in the old South) with prohibition of so-called chain immigration banned; thereby removing the possibility of family reunification; the DACA children, who have been acculturated and educated in America, are successful Americans.

Look for my future columns on either the Difficult Role of Step Parents in America Today or United States Supreme Court Justice: Thurgood Marshall, and his sentinel court successes on behalf of wrongly accused African Americans; accused because their skin was simply too dark for White Americans.

King Trump wants America WHITE again. We the folks with knowledge of reality know we can defeat his premise and succeed. Let’s see what’s in store for us today: FAKE news. HA! HA! HEE! HEE!

You read The Thinkering News, so you are imbued with truth as your sword and kindness in your heart; you are a THINKER and THINKERS’ KNOW that with purity of heart, you can channel the force of when we are called to action. If King Trump makes speeches, tweets, sends or voices a message (moves his fingers and lips) or postures about a position regarding a compelling issue THINKERS KNOW: What the king sayeth, is not what he doeth. King Trump changes his opinions and waivers when asked to confirm and then, on recap, performs a 180 and denies what he said, because he does not remember saying “those words” nor “taking that stance”, despite video and audio concurrence.
