A Federal Magistrate Judge Robert Richardson of Hartford upheld the 2009 law that prohibits lengthening Tweed’s run way, limiting it to 5,600 feet.

The airport argues their only commercial client American Airlines will be replacing the planes serving Tweed now with new ones requiring additional runway length for take-off.   A non-jury trial on the airport’s lawsuit against the state was held earlier this year.

The judge wrote in his decision that he wasn't convinced the current runway would stifle commercial flights or preventing the New Haven Country airport form attracting more commercial flights.
