Tom Petty front man with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers has died at the age of 66.  According to reports he had a heart attack at his Malibu, California home on Sunday and was taken to the UCLS Medical Center but could not be revived.

A statement sent from his longtime manager Tony Dimitriades said, "On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends." 

After Cardiac Arrest on Sunday, he never regained consciousness and the hospital reportedly did not find any brain activity when he arrived. 

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, completed a summer tour one week ago with the final three shows being at the Hollywood Bowl.  The tour marked the groups 40th anniversary.

The celebrated rocker recently said during an interview, "I need something to  do, or I tend to be a nuisance around the house."

Petty added to the chorus of musicians who aided the popularity of rebels and outcasts.   In 2014, he enjoyed his most recent success with a Number One on the Billboard Charts with the release of Hypnotic Eye.

Petty was removed from life support on Monday.
