Canelo Alverez vs. Gennady Golovkin, was one for the ages.  For some real diehard boxing enthusiasts this is the boxing match of the year.

Heavy handed Golovkin retained his middleweight titles on Saturday night, in a draw the drew ire and complaints when the scoring became known.   True boxing fans enjoyed the fight saying that it is one of the better fights of the year. GGG is naturally the larger man and the two boxers stayed squarely in their own fight plans.  Despite Mike Tysons quote, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

Golovkin seemed to get winded at times as the 35-year-old battled against one of the top boxers in the world.  Golovkin maintained his belts scoring 115-114, Golovkin, 114-114 and 118-110.  The final score came from Adalaide Byrd, and she has taken verbal beatings from boxing folk around the world.

Some other disputed bouts that caused attention to be drawn to Byrd.

Only judge who had Melvin Guillard as the winner in UFC 155 vs Jamie Varner

Only judge who had Bernard Hopkins as the winner vs Joe Calzaghe (114-113) in 2008

The sensational fight was overshadowed by Byrd’s unusual or rather usual scoring.   Golovking said, "I wanted a true fight, I like the Mexican style."   He called the fight a true fight as a slight against the exhibition type fight one month ago that captured the world’s attention the Mayweather vs McGregor bout.  Many say it was not a real fight due to McGregor no being an actual boxer, but a MMA fighter.

The fight was considered by Abel Sanchez, Golovkin’s trainer as a war, he said, "There were no surprises. We knew going in it would be a war, Canelo was very resilient."

Boxing fans expect a rematch.
