European societies are historically known for sitting for excessive periods.  America is based on traditional lifestyles of the people in London, Span and France.

A new study suggests living a sedentary lifestyle leads to an early grave.   In a study that included 7985 adults 45 years of age or older says prolonged, uninterrupted sedentariness was expressed as mean sedentary bout length.  The movement was measured using a hip mounted accelerometer.

Over the course of four years of the total number 340 participants died.

Experts suggest people who work at a desk or in a sedentary environment should take a movement break every 30 minutes.  According to the study no matter how much you exercise sitting for excessively long periods of time is a risk factor for early death.

In contrast people who sat for less than 30 minutes at the time had the lowest risk of early death.  Suggesting the position itself is bad for your health.

Lesson for the day, move more and sit less to live longer.
