Michael Phelps vs Great White Shark

The Discovery Channel aired a race between the 20-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps versus a great white shark.  Viewers expected to have the shark and the Olympian race side-by-side in real time and were disappointed because the network used a virtual simulation.

Social media response voiced some viewer’s disappointment while people who are familiar with shark behavior say it would have been the shortest race in history after the animal would have devoured its human competition.

According to races run separately Phelps swam the course off the coast of South Africa in open waters.  The 100m race was swam by the shark in 36.1 seconds while Phelps came in a close second at 38.1 seconds.  Many people watched the race and felt:” robbed” by the cheap animation.
