An Ohio police officer has been fired from the Cleveland Division of Police after being found in the wrong for the shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice.

Timothy Loehmann, a first year officer with the division responded to a call citing a potential gun threat on a playground, Rice was brandishing a toy gun that fired pellets, but was shot down by the inexperienced officer who was found to have lied on his initial application.

The accompanying officer on the day of the shooting was Frank Garmback, he is being suspended for 10 days and receive additional tactical training according the Michael McGrath the Cleveland Director of Public Safety.

Earlier this year, the Cleveland police dispatcher involved in the shooting was suspended for 8 days for failing to warn officers that the emergency caller had described the scene as a playground and suggested it may have been a fake gun.

I’m not sure if the light punishments for the dispatcher and the other officer on the scene are a response to their help in the investigation, but it still feels like a marginalized case.  Is it just me or do you feel the Cleveland Division of Police are doing just enough?
