Russian President Vladimir Putin has thrown in his support for Syria against U.S. aggression against the small middle-eastern country.

President Putin said Russia did not rule out supporting a U.N. Security Council resolution authorizing force, if it was proved “beyond doubt” that the Syrian government used chemical weapons.”

The program sets a time limit of 60 days on the operation and no ground troops will be deployed.   The U.S. has what is considered a puffed-up death toll from the alleged chemical attack just outside of Damascus on 21 August at nearly 1500, other countries and groups have given much lower figures.

President Barack Obama has called for punitive action in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack.

Putin said, “If there is evidence that chemical weapons were used, and by the regular army…then  this evidence must be presented to the U.N. Security Council.  And it must be convincing.”

He also said, it was “too early” to talk about what Russia would do if America took action without a U.N. resolution.
