Rescued Kayakers

Two young kayakers were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Tuesday afternoon.

The young men drifted 7 miles south of Galveston into the Gulf of Mexico and were able to tie their boat to an oil rig long enough to call for help.

According to reports from KTRK, Elvie Damaso, a watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston said, “These young men were lucky enough to have a cell phone with them and after they contacted us, we were able to get their GPS location and send our boat crew out to rescue them,” “The Coast Guard would like to remind mariners to always have the proper equipment with them before going out in open water.  That gear could help save your life.”

The young men were both ok and were later released to their families.
