Burned Hands

Teachers and administrators at HISD’s Askew Elementary School noticed an 8 year old with burned and infected hands back in December.  According to Estella Olguin of Child Protective Services, “His hands were placed by his mother, allegedly, on a hot stove injuring both of his hands,” She said in a statement.

Maria Delores Guevara appeared before a magistrate on Wednesday for arraignment on a felony charge of injury to a child.  Authorities say that Guevara held both her son’s hands down on a hot griddle for as long as a full minute before her domestic partner stopped her.

Sarah Kinney of the Harris County District Attorney’s office says, “An adult burned the hands of a child intentionally.  It wasn’t an accident.  It wasn’t negligence.  She burned his hands intentionally.

Bond was set for Guevara at $55,000.
