On Dec. 17, Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahanfrom “Live” opened up Monday’s show with a tearful tribute to the victims of the Newtown school shooting. Host Kelly Ripa, a parent of three children, was clearly distraught and struggled to maintain her composure on air. “I don’t expect much, but I do expect to send my kids to school and see them at the end of the day,” she stated tearfully on Monday morning. Ripa went on to honor the heroic principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Conn. “She protected the school and made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Kelly’s co-host, Michael Strahan, the parent of four children, was also visibly moved when he talked about the Newtown school shooting. “It doesn’t make sense and I don’t think it ever will,” he said emotionally on “Live with Kelly and Michael.” He added, “This is a nightmare that collectively we can’t wake up from.”
