HOUSTON- BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is joining Natural Pawz and Santa Claus at the Heights First Saturday event this Saturday, December 1 to ensure all of  Houston's pets get a photo with Santa this year. Every Houstonian is invited to take their pet to Natural Pawz in the Heights this Saturday for a photo with Santa from noon to 4 p.m. Each photo requires a $5 donation that will go toward supporting BARC's animals.  In addition to pet photos with Santa, BARC will also have dogs, puppies, cats and kittens available for adoption noon to 4 p.m. The Heights First Saturday event is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BARC's participation in the Heights First Saturday event on December 1 is the first of many adoptable pet appearances to come. BARC plans to join the recurring Heights First Saturday event on West 19th Street every month (the event is free admission). Dogs, puppies, cats and kittens will be available for adoption during each event at Natural Pawz, located at 514 West 19th Street, Houston, TX 77008

"We are excited to partner with Natural Pawz to bring our animals to the community in a new way," said Chris Newport, BARC spokesman. "Houston's community can count on us to be at the event with some of our adoptable pets every single month. And we love that Santa Claus is joining us this Saturday to kick off the holidays for Houston's pets in a big way."

The event will provide a convenient opportunity for Houstonians to meet and greet some of BARC's adoptable pets. For example, Tammie and Metya, Mayor Parker's Pets of the Week will be at the event if they are still available for adoption.  The photos below, and other photos of the Mayor's Pets of the Week, can also be viewed on BARC's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

Name: Tammie
Animal ID: A1099731
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: Approximately 1 Year 2 Months
Size: Medium
More about Tammie: Tammie is a very sweet girl who steals your heart as soon as you meet her. She is a little shy but is sure to be the perfect companion with a little bit of tender loving care. She needs a home where she can take it easy and soak up lots of love and attention. She would be the perfect pet to cuddle up with next to the fire this holiday season. Tammie entered BARC as a stray and then spent some time with a foster family after she got an upper respiratory infection. Now she is back at BARC and awaiting her forever home. She has a beautiful, shiny black coat with a splash of white on her feet and chest. She gets along well with other dogs and cats. Tammie is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.

Name: Metya
Animal ID: A1103541
Breed: Tabby/Domestic Short Hair Mix
Age: Approximately 1 Year 1 Month
More about Metya: Metya is a soft and beautiful orange kitty with marble markings. She loves to be held, and especially enjoys being scratched between her ears. Metya is a purring machine: As soon as you pick her up, her motor revs up full blast. She is a very curious kitty who enjoys exploring, but she is more than happy to curl up in your lap and give kitty kisses as soon as she finishes surveying her surroundings. She also gets along well with other cats. Metya is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.

Both of these sweet animals are purrfurred pets, which means they have been at BARC's shelter for 20 or more days. Tammie and Metya, along with many other purrfurred pets at BARC, deserve to be adopted by loving families immediately. Visit www.Facebook.com/BARCHouston to find out more about the Mayor's Pets of the Week and other animals at BARC.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
